Savannah (Life is Messy...but sometimes cute!)

Savannah Mackenzie. Sitting there, smiling sweetly and looking like the picture of innocence. Don't be deceived. At that moment she is probably thinking about where she can find some markers, or if she should hide my phone (and change my contact list while she's at it.) Savannah is full of spunk and a little bit of mischief. Just a couple of weeks ago she decided to expand her portfolio of artwork in our hallway.

We had barely started the day! She wasn't even out of her pajamas yet. Look how proud she looks!

Terrible twos are a real thing. Savannah is strong-willed and we have to deal with meltdowns often. But the thing is that as mischievous and stubborn as she can be, she is also growing sweeter every day. She is at an age where she is starting to see the wonder in every day things like a dandelion. She gets extremely excited when I do over little things. My favorite moments are those when she climbs up and my lap and says "I love you." I smile just thinking about how affectionate she is.

Not to mention she is just so cute! She loves getting dressed up. Her boots are her favorite shoes.

Other than her boots she really loves wearing my shoes, especially high heels.

Although some days she drives me crazy, she is also the bright spot in my days! I love how much she's talking now and sometimes I have to laugh when a new sentence emerges from her mouth. Its just funny to hear my baby try to reason, saying things like "We can't have it now? We'll have it later, okay?" (Usually in reference to Halloween candy which she asks for multiple times a day.) She is growing up. This past week, she moved into her big girl bed. I'm really proud of her for staying in bed all night (phew) and doing so well although I could tell at first she wasn't sure if it was still her room.

I will post pictures of her new room in just a few days...its a work in progress. For now I have to wrap this up. Savannah's favorite time to be sneaky is when she knows I'm busy and I'm watching her open my kitchen cabinet and dip her finger in sugar as I speak. She may be a mess, but she has stolen my heart.

Life is Messy...(and sometimes colorful!)

OPI nail polish: One of my favorite things! Since we sell them where I work (and I get them discounted!) I have a little bit of a fetish. They're gorgeous and have awesome names like My Chihuahua Bites and A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find! It's always exciting when we get new colors in. What can is say? I'm a girly-girl who likes to paint my toenails especially now that its flip flop season! Recently I started painting Savannah's toes as well. She gets so excited and she loves to just look at the bottles. I mean just look at them, they're so pretty! Unfortunately, this newfound interest led to recent disaster... I do keep my polishes put up, however, on this particular day I had purchased a new polish and it was in my purse... You can already see where I'm going with this.

She decided to paint her own... She missed.

This particular shade? Ate Berries in the Canaries. Unfortunately, Savannah wasn't in the Canaries. She was in my bedroom. And where, you ask, did she decide to beautify her little pigges?

On my bed. On my beautiful, creamy white quilt. Sigh... The truth is that I have had this particular bedspread on my bed for over 6 years now. It needs replaced but I have searched and searched without finding anything that I like! (Its hard being a person who isn't fond of change.) I can't even remember how many comforters, quilts, and coverlets I have bought, thrown on the bed, and said "Hmm...nope." Back to the store they go. I was able to get the majority of the nail polish out...or at least faded to a very pale pink. So for now I'm just going with it. It's just another reminder that life is messy. But how can I complain? I've got a little girly-girl in the making.

Life is Messy...(and sometimes sticky!)

About a month ago I was on the phone with my sister when Savannah came dashing into the kitchen, threw open my cabinet door, grabbed the maple syrup, and ran back toward her bedroom. I stood there in shock for a second (what makes her THINK of these things??) before saying "Meg, I gotta go!" Fortunately that day I prevented a near-disaster. My mistake was that after that day I did not relocate the maple syrup... Today I was not as fortunate and this is how I found it.

It was a MESS to clean up. Also, not a good day to realize I am out of paper towels... Savannah was pretty excited about "helping me" clean it up. Here she is enjoying the fruits of her labor.

I don't have to tell you this, but life is messy. Life with KIDS is especially messy. And this particular event threw my schedule off by an entire hour today! I am learning every day how to process these disasters. Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I yell. Sometimes I have to laugh. My kids aren't perfect, but neither am I. So we learn together. The maple syrup is now cleaned up (yes and it has also found its home in a new cabinet), Savannah is forgiven, and this mom has recovered from her panic. Still, I can't deny that nap time was quite welcome today.
